Donald Emmett Tufto

Donald Emmett Tufto was born on April 11, 1930 on his fathers farm, west of Fortuna, North Dakota to Christ and Mable (Quarne) Tufto. The family later moved to a farm 3 ½ miles northeast of Hanks, North Dakota. In 1940, Donald moved with his family to a farm seven miles north of Williston. Donald was educated in rural Williams County Schools, and was confirmed in 1947 at the First Lutheran Church in Williston.

On December 29th 1950, Donald enlisted into the United States Air Force, During his enlistment he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, US Service Medal and Japan Occupation Medal. He was honorable discharged on December 1, 1954.

Upon returning home from the service, Donald began his long time farming career with his brother, Abner. Donald loved to fix things around the farm and he was a accomplished welder, but he especially enjoyed driving his famous four wheel drive tractor, the pair worked out a system where Donald would cultivate the land and Abner would follow him and seed. The two farmed together until Donald’s health forced him to enter the Bethel home where he has resided for the last seven years

Surviving Donald are his brother, Abner of rural Williston; one sister in law, LuVerne Tufto of Minot; one niece, Darla O’Donnell of Minneapolis, MN; two nephews, Kris (Nancy) Tufto of Minneapolis, MN and Eric (Laurie) Tufto of Wassau, WI and several cousins

Preceding him in death were his parents and three brothers, Odean, Clairmont and Clayton.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 15th 2010 at the First Lutheran Church in Williston, Rev. Martin Mock will officiate.

Friends may call at the Everson Funeral Home on Friday, May 14th from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM and for the hour preceding the service at the church on Saturday.

Interment will follow at the Riverview Cemetery in Williston.
