Bernadene Gortler, 86, a former longtime resident of Williston, ND, lately of the Trinity Care Center in Farmington, MN, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2010.
Bernadene Clare Oppen Gortler was born Feb. 26, 1924 to Clarence and Lela (Briggs) Oppen at Berwick, ND.
In 1933 she and her parents moved to Williston, where she attended school. Following graduation from Williston High School in 1941, she attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.
During World War II she enlisted as a Spar in the US Coast Guard. On Feb. 11, 1945 she married William L. Gortler. She and her husband had resided in Williston since 1947. Mr. Gortler preceded her in death Aug. 26, 1990.
Mrs. Gortler was a member of First Lutheran Church and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and a former member of the Thursday Musical Club and Entertainment, Inc.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Joseph Hopkins (Susan) and Siri Gortler, both of Minneapolis, MN and two sons, William Gortler and David Gortler of Williston; four granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place.
The Everson Funeral Home of Williston is caring for the family.

Her graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Riverview Cemetery in Williston. Rev. L. Jay Reinke will officiate.

Friends may call at Everson Funeral Home Wednesday morning from 9:00 am until 12:00 p.m. and begin gathering at the cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
