Arlene, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your Mother. I remember going to your home many times, and your Mom was just the best. She always had a smile, and treated us as her own. (((hugs))) Myrna
July 30, 2013 - Peggy Sande Thurlby of Bismarck, ND
I am another former Williston kid from the Grondahl neighborhood. My family lived 2 houses down from them and I remember being friends with Arlene. My mother and Millie would have coffee parties almost every day. They each lost their husbands a month apart in 1981.I was only 9 when we moved to Minot but we were back often to visit the Sande and Jeffrey families. My mom and I would always stop and visit the Grondahls, the Slasis and the Reagens. I lost my mother 6 years ago and only have 2 cousins left in Williston so never get up there. Your mom will always be in your hearts so cherish the wonderful memories you have. Peggy

Larry and Brenda, so sorry for your loss. I was only privaledged to know Millie in the last 10 years or so, but, what a "kick in the pants" lady! She was so much fun at the dinners at Arlenes, always holding the floor with her jokes and stories of raising her sons. I so enjoyed her. I know she will be missed. Larry, you were a wonderful son to her.
July 26, 2013 - Paul and Bev Jundt of Bismarck, ND

Dear Grondahl Family - My memories of your Mom
(Mildred)and all the Harstad Family go way way back. We lived about 2 miles east of Anton's Place-as their home was always known and called. Mildred baby sat a few times for my sisters and I. While going to school it was soclose to Anton's so if ever needed we could always show up at Anton's house.
I remember very clearly the evening before Joe Grondahl was to leave for Service in World War II. Milford was just a baby and we were upstairs in Anton's old house and he was laying near the bottom of the bed and kicking and so smiley - he was such a cute baby.
Back then when new recruits were called to Service - Williston would always have a marching parade down Main Street (maybe it could have been for NationalGuard so something)
but I also remember seeing Mildred and Milford watching that.
They were a very large family and I remember much about all of them. Interesting to read how the family has continued to grow - so fun to see her picture as she still looked so happy and know she will be amongst her family once again. Lots of good memories for all of them. Prayers are with you all. An old Cow Creed Neighbor - Marilyn (Stensos) Peterson
July 26, 2013 - Kathleen and Kent "Punky" Regan of Jamestown, ND
We were all part of our neighborhood growing up in Williston. I miss those days!

The last time I saw your Mom was at David Slais's wedding in Watford City. Our folks were with and I remember your Mom dancing with Dad.

Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

May our God of all comfort be close to you.

Kathleen and Punky

oh the precious memories I have of you Millie, what a strong, dependable, admirable woman you were. you took me under your wing as your first and most favorite daughter in law =) 52 years ago. you showed me a generous heart, taught me the secret of making a great pan of baked beans, and set a great example of a mom who could cook, clean, and raise a large family. I remember our trip to the lake to feed the geese as therapy after a knee replacement. unfortunately, we took homemade frozen bread and from the freezer and underestimated how big, hungry, and how high those geese could jump when we couldn't break off the bread fast enough. =) I was amazed at how quickly you could move with your walker on our run back to the car to escape the angry geese. The unpaid for earrings at kmart also brings a smile. If I close my eyes I can smell your Taboo. Thank you for raising responsible, hardworking sons. Your now reunited with your first born. God speed I love you to the moon and back. Gaily Grondahl
July 25, 2013 - Jim Fee & (Justine) of Williston, ND - NORTH DAKOTA
Grondahl Family, so sorry to hear of Millie's passing. She was a dear sweet lady. She took care of my daughter, Justine when she was just a baby. Millie loved her and cared for her as if she was one of her own children. Thank you Millie, you are a special person. May God Bless her soul.
July 25, 2013 - Melody Grondahl of Snohomish, Washington
Grandma.... It's sad you're not with us any longer. I have so many incredible memories, what a gift you've been as my GRANDMA! The special songs, the ones only you could sing. Remember your walker and Mom feeding all the geese, then she bailed on you? YOU gave ME the best Dad God created, he was a gift to our world and that's because YOU were his Mom... He's with you now and I know he's showing you around and making sure you're comfortable, as is Virgil and so many other loved ones. I'm happy you're with sight now, with movement now, as I know God is helping you there. I love you Grandma! Thank God for you as the Grondahl's are a gift, all warped and all darn special. I am a proud Grondahl, thanks to you I am one.... THANK YOU Grandma for all you did for us... LOVE and HUGS and PEACE to you! Melody
July 25, 2013 - John Eric Rolfstad of Seattle, Washington
Larry and all the Grondahl's:

Growing up down the street and as a childhood friend and classmate of Larry's, I fondly remember Millie's warmth and hospitality whenever us kids would drop by the house. Millie had a big and loving heart and was always welcome us enthusiastically. She was a wonderful woman and leaves behind a great legacy. Peace be with all of you in this time of loss...

July 25, 2013 - Rod and Valli Helstad of Spearfish, SD
So sorry to read of the passing of your Mother. I have many, many memories of her while growing up with the "1st Avenue Gang". I bet there will be a big card party in Heaven, and hopefully Millie will be making one of her German Chocolate cakes.

July 24, 2013 - Jeanette Christensen & Judy & Ken Anderson of Spokane Valley, Washington
What a sad day. Millie was my mother's (Jeanette's) most favorite cousin. She used to have so much fun with Millie...making lefse all day long, laughing and telling jokes and just having the best of times for many, many years. The stories they told of their young years were wonderfully funny and very interesting. Millie will be missed so very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
July 24, 2013 - Joyce Krabseth of Williston , ND
Dear family of Millie,

I lost a very special friend this morning. I baby sat the Grondahl kids way back when. Millie was always nice to me, she once took me out for dinner, because she wanted me to have what she and Joe had when they went out, it was a very special time for me. Millie was fun to be with, she often saw the funny side of every day things. Then it became difficult for her to visit, but when I told her who I was she would reach out hold my hand and say "oh sure". These last weeks I could only pause by her chair and whisper a prayer, and enjoy the bright clothes she wore. My sympathy to each of you.
