Marlene K. (Lange) Ness was called to the LORD after a long illness, in the early morning on May 11, 2009, at the age of 65, in Williston, ND.
Marlene was born to Alvin and Catherine (Bettin) Lange on August 13, 1943, in Sac County, Iowa. She grew up on her father’s farm near Odebolt, Iowa. Marlene graduated from Odebolt High School and the Omaha School of Business. She then moved to Ft. Dodge, Iowa and worked for Avco New Idea in the steel buying department and in 1969 as registrar at Ft. Dodge Community College. During this time, her beauty, class and attractiveness led to a part-time modeling career that continued throughout her life.
She met the love of her life, Douglas Ness, and on November 2, 1968, they were married. They delighted in raising three children together. In 1972, Marlene and Doug moved to Williston where they opened BODO’S TV & APPLIANCE CENTER, INC which they owned for 36 years. She was a devoted mother and enjoyed the humor and closeness of her family. Marlene enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, painting watercolors, reading, and being a hockey ‘Mom’. Marlene especially enjoyed spending time with Doug at their farm, Merriwell, south of Columbus. She loved animals and adored Doug’s Red Labradors. Marlene was known for her incredible gardening skills and picturesque landscapes surrounded by her flowers. Marlene loved to bake and cook multi-course dinners for family and friends. She enjoyed many friendships, and she will be remembered for many things, but mostly her warmth, selflessness, pride and generosity of spirit and love. Those who were lucky enough to know Marlene will miss her wonderful smile and distinctive laugh.
She is survived by her husband, Douglas Ness; and three children: son, Kyle Ness and spouse, Zoe (Mpls, MN), daughter, Danica Chilson and spouse, John(Woodbury, MN), and son, Jonas (Williston). Also surviving are her grandchildren, Alec Ness, Charlie Ness, Mahala Chilson and Drew Chilson. She is survived by three siblings; Jolene (Joe) Langle (Austin, TX), Richard (Arlene) Lange (Marshalltown, Ia), and Jean (Bob) Bengfort, (Coeur d’Alene, Id) and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Bob and Becky Herman (Williston) and Dale and Vonnie Brown, Baton Rouge, La.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Catherine Lange, her sister-in-law , Sharon (Ness) Herman, and nephew, Todd Herman.
