Shirley Runion, 75, a longtime Williston resident, passed away Saturday afternoon, May 22, 2010, at Trinity Hospital in Minot, ND.

Shirley Ann Gosline was born February 18, 1935 to Alexander and Lillian (Mathson) Gosline in Poplar, MT. Shirley grew up in Williston, graduated from Williston High School, and attended school in Minot for nurse’s training. In 1973 she attended UND-W and received her LPN degree.

In July of 1960 Shirley met the man of her dreams, M. Bryon “Run” Runion, and they were married on November 25, 1960 in Wolf Point, MT.

Shirley started working as an aide after receiving her LPN, and worked in various nursing homes, wherever she and Run were stationed. She loved taking care of people and was a very loving and caring person. She returned to Williston in 1976 and went to work at the local nursing home and then Mercy Medical. She worked as an LPN until 1992, then continued working as an aide.

She was a member of a local LPN association and served as its treasurer for many years and a term as president, was a member of Catholic Daughters, the American Legion and Women of the Moose.

She enjoyed embroidery, writing letters, attending pow-wows and rodeos, loved camping and visiting friends and family. After being overseas with Run, she developed a love for traveling.

Surviving Shirley are her husband, M. Bryon “Run” Runion of Williston; her daughter, Darla Runion of Williston; her grandson, Dustin Romans, serving in Kosovo; her sister, Betty Stompro of Williston; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lawrence Gosline; baby sister, Darlene Gosline; several aunts and uncles; and her grandparents.

In lieu of flowers, friends may donate in memory of Shirley to one’s favorite charity, church or food pantry, all of which Shirley supported.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at 3:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church by Father Dennis Schafer.

An Evening Vigil will be held Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at the Everson Memorial Chapel.

Friends may call Tuesday at the Everson Funeral Home of Williston from 1:00 until 7:00 PM and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., and at the church for the hour preceding the funeral.

Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
