Place of Birth: Round Prairie Township, North Dakota
Date Departed: June 7, 2010

Age: 88

Florence Mahlen was born Dec 17, 1921 in Round Prairie Township to Alfred and Hannah (Vangen) Mahlen. She was raised and educated in Round Prairie. She had 5 brothers and 8 sisters. She often spoke of the turkeys that her parents raised. She said the turkeys needed a lot of care and if it rained they needed to be put inside for fear a drop of rain should fall on them and they would drown. She worked for a local dairy farm where she met her future husband, Omar Njos.

Omar and Florence were united in marriage on October 1, 1941. Florence was Omar’s partner in many farming/business adventures. To this union, three sons were born, Ronald, Larry, and Kenny.

Omar passed away April 20, 1978. Florence continued to make her home in Williston working at the Family Thrift Center, Bethel Lutheran Home, and eventually retiring from the Williston Junior High as a school cook. Family was important to her. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved to spoil them on their birthdays and holidays. She enjoyed the monthly Mahlen family birthday get-togethers. She leaves behind wonderful memories to cherish and her spirit will live on in all the lives she touched.

She married Russell Norby on February 14, 1981 in Williston. Russell and Florence shared many years of happiness together, including traveling to visit family in Minnesota, Washington, and Texas. Their home was the gathering place for many occasions.

Florence was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Marmon Homemakers, Sons of Norway, Birthday Club, and many more.

Florence was a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, neighbor and friend to many. She will be greatly missed by all.
