Steve Ritter, 61, a lifelong Williston resident, died Monday, May 7, 2012, in Williston, ND.

Steven C. Ritter was born July 4, 1950 in Williston, ND to Dr. T.C. Ritter and Alma (Humann) Ritter. He graduated from Williston High School in 1968, and attended the University of North Dakota Grand Forks through 1970. For three years he attended the American School of Diamond Cutting, graduating in 1976. Steve was briefly married to Joyce Winden.

Steve was a long time businessman in Williston. In 1976, he established Ritter Brothers Diamond Cutters and Jewelers with his brother, Tim. He was a diamond cutter, goldsmith and retail jeweler until his retirement in 2010. He was also involved in the oil business as a landman and manager of his own oil properties.

When he wasn’t working, Steve loved gourmet cooking for himself, his many friends and his family. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing for walleye and boating. Steve was a guitar player and a gifted song writer. Throughout his life, he played and performed professionally as well as for his family and friends. Steve was also a very skilled woodworker spending many hours in his shop on various projects.

Steve had a great love for his nephews and niece. He loved spending time and doing special things with them.

Steve is survived by his mother, Alma Ritter; two brothers, Tom (Carol) Ritter and Tim Ritter; one sister, Pam (Carroll) Hegge; six nephews, Stinson (Kendra) and Alex Ritter, Ethan and Evan Ritter, Chris and Kyle Hegge; and one niece, Josslyn Finck.

He was preceded in death by this father, Dr. T.C. Ritter.

In lieu of flowers, Steve’s family prefers memorials be sent to the Williston Community Library.

His Memorial Service will be held Friday morning, May 11, 2012, at 11:00 AM at First Lutheran Church in Williston. Rev. Ben Loven will officiate.

A Family Service is scheduled at the Chapel at First Lutheran Church on Thursday evening at 7:00. Friends are welcome to come and share.

All are welcome to call at Everson Funeral Home Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday for the hour preceding the funeral.

Interment of the cremated remains will follow later in the day at Riverview Cemetery, Williston.
