  James (Jim) Snyder

Birth Date: May 8, 1923
Place of Birth: Williston, North Dakota
Date Departed: August 5, 2013
Resided: Scappoose, Oregon
Age: 90

James T. "Jim" Snyder, 90, longtime Williston resident and local theater operator, passed away Monday, August 5, 2013, at Meadow Park Health and Specialty Care in St. Helens, Oregon.

Jim was born May 8, 1923 to John Charles and Vivian (Taggart) Snyder in Williston, North Dakota. Jim was raised in Williston with his three brothers, Jack, Fritz, and Rich, and his sister, Billiette. He was very active in sports, especially basketball, and music, becoming proficient at the trombone, during his school years. He graduated from Williston High School in 1941.

Jim, along with his brother Jack, took over management duties at the movie theaters in Williston, which eventually included a drive-in theater and two theaters in Wolf Point, Montana. He met Beverly Monson, during her employment at the theaters, and the two eventually married in 1962 in Williston. They had two children, Taggart Jay and Shayne Louise who, when they were old enough, joined mom and dad for "theater duty". Jim's beloved Beverly passed away in 1987. The theaters were sold by 1995 and it was then that Jim retired and found time to hop in the Caddy and visit the grandkids in Oregon or visit friends and relatives spread out over much of the country.

Jim enjoyed movies, jazz, deer and goose hunting, taking the grandkids to Medora and just generally spending time with them. Jim moved to Rose Valley Assisted Living in Scappoose, Oregon in 2011. As you can imagine, he was a hit with the ladies there. He will be remembered for his contagious laugh and wonderful sense of humor.

Jim is survived by his two children, Taggart Snyder of Mandan, ND, and Shayne Snyder of Scappoose, OR; four grandchildren, Taylor Vlastelicia, Cassidy Vlastelicia, Aidan Vlastelicia, and Evan Barham, all of Scappoose, OR; four sisters-in-law, Jeanne Snyder, of Phoenix, AZ, Dorothy Berce, of Fargo, ND, Betty Powell, of Minot, ND, and Jackie Klimpel, of Rochester, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beverly; his three brothers, Jack, Fritz, and Richard; and his sister, Billiette Snyder.

The Everson Funeral Home of Williston is caring for the family.
