  Edwin "Ike" Blunt

Edwin “Ike” Blunt, 82, of Williston, formerly of Miles City and Billings, MT, passed away Saturday morning, October 5, 2013, at the Bethel Lutheran Home in Williston, ND.

Edwin Virgil Blunt was born March 7, 1931 in Nora Springs, Iowa to Virgil and Grace (Helmers) Blunt. He was raised on the family ranch where they raised cattle, pigs and horses. Later in Ike’s teenage years, his family moved to Miles City. Edwin has lived in Miles City, Billings and Williston for the greater part of his adult life. More recently he was in the Glendive Veterans Home until his admission to Bethel Lutheran Home in Williston.

Edwin served in the United States Army from 1952 until 1956 during the Korean War. While in the service, he was a bodyguard to President Eisenhower while he was over in Korea, and also to Marilyn Monroe while she was there on tour for the military.

After his discharge from the Army, Ike returned to the Montana area. He was a ranch hand while living in Wibaux, MT and a roofing and painting contractor in Miles City, MT.

Ike and Marion were united in marriage in Williston. They established their home in Williston where they raised their family. Marion passed away in 2002.

In his youth, Edwin rode the rodeo circuit as a bronc and bull rider traveling to places like Wolf Point, Miles City and Glendive. He also enjoyed showing people his stamp and belt buckle collections. Most of his days were spent socializing with staff, residents and visitors at Bethel Home. He always had a smile and a great spirit. He enjoyed music and rodeos.

Ike is survived by his three children: son, Casey Blunt of Williston, ND, daughters, Teresa Cox of Billings, MT, and Cathy Jolliff of Lewistown, MT; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Grace Blunt; and his wife, Marion.

His funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon, October 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bethel Lutheran Home Chapel in Williston. Rev. Betty Czubay will officiate.

Friends may call at the Everson Funeral Home of Williston on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until noon, and at the Bethel Lutheran Home on Tuesday for the hour preceding the service.

Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery in Williston.
