Barry and I were close friends at Rickard Elementary and remained so well into high school. We spent many days skateboarding all over town and once took the train to Grand Forks when his mother was attending UND so we could ride the skate park in Fargo. Barry had considered joining a ski trip to Bridger Bowl earlier this year and it would have been great to see him again. I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing. May he rest in peace. My condolences to his wife and daughter.

It was so hard to hear of your passing, Barry. I just heard the news from our good friend and brother, Paul Ruiz. You were an awesome part of my life and I will never forget. You will always be in my heart and prayers. Be at peace, my brother.

I knew Barry when I was very young. As a young kid we would hang out at his dad's farm while my dad and all his buddies would go deer hunting. We would build hay bale forts. I am truly sorry to hear this.

Dearest Kristi, Kacey and the entire Nelson Family,
Our hearts and prayers reach out to all of you in this time of deepest sorrow. We had the greatest pleasure to meet Barry in 2011 when we came to North Dakota and the Bakkens. There are not enough truly kind and inspiring words to say about Barry for his loving caring ways are beyond all human words. So we say, Barry was LOVE. He reached out everyday to everyone he met with LOVE. He knew no strangers and each day he had more friends. We shall miss him beyond what words can say and look forward to seeing his happy smiling face, feeling his love and kindness once again generated for all. We love you Barry.

Barry was a great friend to me. We hit it off right away when he came to Rockwater. It was like we knew each other forever. We became very close in the short time we were friends. I miss him everyday as we almost spoke daily. My heart is broken for his family. He was a one of a kind that’s for sure. My little girl just said today she wanted to see Barry we told her he was in heaven, she is to young to understand at two and a half, I wish I was that fortunate. RIP my friend and I will see you again.

Barry's dad, Richard, was my oldest brother's (Lyle Nelson) good friend. Hi, mom, Cheryl and I were good buddies in high school. We were in typing class together (and got in a little bit of trouble).

My heart goes out to his family.

P.S. My brother's name is Barry Nelson -- Just different last names! So this hit home!

I still cannot believe Barry is gone!
I remember when we first met. Barry had just started working as a sales rep. at Glitsa and I honestly think we were the very first customers of his that he met. Quite frankly, he was pretty green in the world of "flooring" at that time. That changed pretty quickly of course as he was always a person to fully immerse himself in a task. Even when faced with difficult problems, his goal would be the outcome which satisfied the most people involved. In the many following years when we would attend NWFA meetings, Barry was always somebody that we would "hang with" for a night on the town or for business dinners with large groups of people. Everyone liked Barry! He was quick with a joke and large on compassion.
Kristi and his daughter Kasey were obviously the center of the universe to Barry. Being on the road a lot with Glitsa was difficult for him. He was happy when his travels allowed him to head back home so he could reattach to the family he loved so much and make up for lost time.
Barry and I kept in touch over the years via the internet and luckily, we had a similar political bent too so when I would see something that perked my anger, I would forward it to him, just to make sure he would get good and "chapped" too!
Unfortunately, it has been a few years since we last chatted "live" together and I am deeply saddened that I won't be able to hear that near-Canadian mid-western accent of his anymore.
Kristi, Kasey, please accept my most sincere of condolences for the loss of Barry. Right now there is too much sadness to think about anything but him being gone, but try and remember all the good things that he brought to your lives. That is his true legacy, the love he shared with you.
Some stars burn brighter that others, and unfortunately, the ones that burn the brightest sometimes run out of fuel quicker than the others. But even thought their time may seem short, the total amount of the energy they released allows the life and love they projected to last forever.
Your family will be in my family's prayers.

I used to babysit Barry, although he was not much younger than me. I enjoyed spending time with Barry. He was fun, interesting, and very smart. To his family: I am sorry for your loss. I hope that, as time passes, the good memories ease your grief.

I shall always think of Barry as a kindhearted and thoughtful person. Every time I saw him in passing, he always said, “let’s get together with Njos and some other guys and share a good time”. I wish I could go back in time and take him up on that proposition.
I pray for his family and all friends to ultimately attain peace and remember Barry for who he was....a genuine true gentleman who always spoke proudly of his family. . RIP buddy.

The news on your passing was devastating. You will be sorely missed by so many people. Wish I could have had one more chat with you where you relentlessly tease me about why I moved to Billings, MT from Minneapolis! You are the cream of the crop Barry, truly one in a million. I will remember you in my heart for your love for your family, always praising Kristy and Kasey, and your compassion for your fur babies. I’m so very sorry we had recently lost touch you will NEVER be forgotten. Until we me again in heaven my dear friend, Rest In Peace. Much love to all of you, especially Kristi and Kasey.

So shocked and saddened to hear of Barry's passing; I last saw him in May when he attended my dad's funeral in Williston. He was the same kind, caring, humble man he was back in high school and of course always the rockstar. He and I got in some political debates on FB but he was always respectful and good-humored, as was his way. I'm thinking of his loved ones today and sending them peace from my heart to theirs. I know he will be greatly missed.

If our class would have had one of those questions, Who is the WHS class '82 RockStar? Barry would have won hands down, from grade school all the way through out his life, when I think of Barry, he's the RockStar, he had that Joe cool look, and always that smooth classy style.

So very sorry to see my classmate and friend leave us so early. You will be missed, but never forgotten.

Sleep in peace, for His Peace is promised.

My most sincere condolences to all who loved him and called him friend. May God also grant you Peace, and lift you through this time of sorrow and grief.

Oh Barry you’re a very loved Husband, Dad, Son, Grandson, Nephew, Cousin and like a little brother to Mary all of us girls love. You should not be gone so soon. We just saw you last month, we laughed and hugged. If I had known that was going to be the last time I’d ever see you, I would have never let you out of that hug. So handsome, so intelligent, your heart that loved people & animals. Oh how I remember you letting Mary & I take your Trans Am driving around back in the day. I will give you another big hug when we see each other again in Heaven. I wish you peace dear Barry.

I was devastated to hear that Barry had passed away so young. He lived 3 doors down from me when I lived in Williston as a child growing up, until we left there in 1977. We hung out all the way through grade school, then we moved away and I was only able to see him a few more times through High School whenever I came back to visit. I have memories of us playing kick the can, seeing who could scream the loudest and Barry showing me all of his KISS posters because he was crazy about the band KISS back in those days. We had reconnected through FB about 7 years ago and these last 2 years we lost touch again when I left FB . I never had a chance to meet his family, but my heart goes out to his wife Kristy and their daughter. I am so sorry about Barry... I still can't believe he is gone. I wish I could have had a chance to say goodbye. Rest peacefully my old childhood friend. I can still see you standing there in our yard, with your Puma tennis shoes, striped t shirt and that bright red hair of yours.
