Janet “Jan” (Haugen)Whritenour, age 79, longtime resident of Williston, North Dakota passed peacefully at her son’s home in Minnetonka, MN on May 5th, 2019.
Jan was born October 30, 1939 in Crosby, ND. Jan was baptized and confirmed at the Alamo Lutheran Church. She attended Outlook Country School near Alamo.
Jan met William “Bill” Whritenour at the Divide County Fair in 1957. They were married on November 22, 1958 at the Alamo Lutheran Church. Together they had five children and raised them in Minneapolis, MN. Their marriage ended in 1983, yet they remained friends.
When Jan and her children moved to Williston in 1984, she started work at Model Dry Cleaners. In 1986 she began working at Bethel Lutheran Nursing Home where she was employed for 28 years.
Jan enjoyed being outdoors, driving around the countryside, listening to country music and enjoying nature’s beauty. She also enjoyed embroidery and did this until she was no longer able. Her favorite Sunday adventure would be driving out to the Haugen farm, having coffee and visiting with family.
Jan was a longtime member of the Williston Moose Lodge # 239. She was an avid sports fan. She loved watching the Minnesota Twins, the Minnesota Wild, but most of all cheering for her favorite team the Minnesota Vikings. Skol!
Janet is survived by son Donald Whritenour (Chris) of Minnetonka, MN; daughter Barbara Storseth (Craig) of Williston, ND; daughter Karen Evans (Scott) of Stanley, ND; son Jerry Whritenour (Lyndie) of Williston, ND; daughter Debbie Benth of Williston, ND; grandchildren Sarah, Bryan, Abby, Tommy, Shawn, Tyler, Matt, Marcus, Nick, Bridget, Madison, Kennedy, Brandon, Jordan; great-grandchildren Brinley, Brexton, Hudson, Thomas, Alexis, Marcus Jr., Bentley, Bennett; brothers and sisters Phyllis Larson, Shirley Gardner, Mervin Haugen, Ronald Haugen, Beverly Brown, Milton Haugen, Gregory Haugen; many nieces and nephews.
Janet is preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Martha Haugen; brothers, Lowell Haugen, Gary Haugen.
